Our Story

Most of us spend our days away from the animal we love most. We go to work, and they stay home — and somewhere in the middle of the afternoon, we catch ourselves thinking about them.

That thought is where Felted & Loved began.

We wanted something you could carry with you. Not a photo on a phone screen. Not a printed picture. Something you could wear, hold, and show to someone — so that when they ask, you can say, "This is my dog." And feel that quiet pride, and that little bit of warmth, all over again.

So we make pet portraits you can keep close: embroidered and needle-felted by hand, in wool, onto a hat or a scarf you can wear all winter.

Why wool, and why two crafts

There are cheaper ways to put a pet's face on a hat. We didn't choose them.

A printed image has no temperature. It sits flat on the surface and stays there. It doesn't catch the light, it doesn't change as you move, and it doesn't feel like anything when you touch it.

We chose a slower path. Machine embroidery builds the structure — the outline, the eyes, the shape of the muzzle, the main blocks of colour. Then an artisan works thousands of needle strokes by hand into the wool, blending fur colours and shaping the expression until it reads as your pet.

Both stages are designed for you and you alone. We don't have a catalogue of pre-made designs. Every portrait is built from one photo, for one animal, and it exists only once.

That is the difference between a product and a portrait.

What we are really making

Here is what we are aiming for, and we will be honest about it.

We want the moment the box opens to be a quiet one. Not a gasp — a pause. Someone looking at a piece of wool and thinking, for a second, that they are being looked back at.

For the people whose pet is still curled up at home, waiting by the door, we want it to feel like a little of that company travels with them. For the people whose pet is no longer there, we want it to feel like a homecoming — brief, and not entirely imagined.

Wool cannot give anyone their animal back, and we would never pretend otherwise. What it can do is hold a likeness well enough that the memory has somewhere to rest. That is the whole of our ambition, and it is enough.

And after that, we hope you'll find someone to show it to.

Four things we won't compromise on

  • One photo, one pet. Every piece is made for a single animal. No templates, no repeats.
  • You approve before we make. We design it first and send it to you. If you say no, we revise — or refund you in full.
  • Real wool, real handwork. Genuine wool, felted by hand. Not printed, not mass-produced.
  • If we get it wrong, we fix it. Our mistake, our cost. See our Returns & Remakes policy.

Your photo stays yours

We use your photo to make your order. That is all.

We never use your pet's photo, their name, or your finished piece in advertising, on social media, or anywhere else — unless you tell us, clearly and separately, that we can. Agreeing to have an order made is not the same as agreeing to be featured.

We've written this into our Privacy Policy, and it sits here too, because it matters to us.

From a phone photo to something you wear

Here is a real order: the photo the customer sent us, and the finished piece. Same dog, twice — once on a screen, once in wool.
